It's been tricky to figure out what to do for our family pictures. My mom suggested that I set it all up and somehow take them myself. As tempting as that sounded, it worked out much better to have our friend who is a real photographer take them. She and I did a swap so that both of our families could be well documented and maybe even have some pictures with us in them.
I wanted to wear oranges and yellows, but Anne has a plethera of pink. So, to the fabric storage. In a weekend, I made this pretty little number. Scott thinks it is reminiscent of a flamenco dancer's garb, but I think it's hip. The best part is that I didn't have to buy a single thing (except for the thread, though that was purchased for a previous project so I had it on hand). The funky mustard fabric was from a drapery job that my mom did years ago and the floral (which you see at the waist and which lines the skirt part) was inherited from either my great grandma or my great aunt. My mom could tell you which. I hate doing closures, so this puppy has some re-purposed onesie snaps sewed to the back. Cheap and lovely. Man, just think of what I could accomplish if everything had a strict deadline!
I love it (the pictures and the dress).
ReplyDeleteScott: Ruffle are very in right now.
Nancy: You could make her a fruit filled hat and she could wear it for Halloween! ;)
I would be more than happy to let you borrow my dress pattern. Email me your address and I can send it to you.
Can I just call you the crafty queen? I can't believe you just whipped that adorable little dress out so quickly(love the ruffles)! And I heart your pictures & the fun colors you chose. I think the Banburys are in need of some family photos as well...Nancy, are you game? Let's chat.
ReplyDeleteThese are adorable! The colors in the pictures look great, and Anne's little dress is fab-u-lous. :)
ReplyDeleteHopefully the almost-Yinger's and the Jones' can meet up again soon. We definitely need to talk wedding stuff too...and school stuff. Basically, we just need to catch up.
Wow! I thought the dress was really cute before I knew you made it...Now I think it's even cuter! You are so impressive! What a wonderful talent to have! The photos are very cute! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI hate closure too. I always just run away when someone starts to say goodbye. Okay, just kidding, but I seriously do want to know how you used those snaps. I'm working on a blessing dress for Olivia and am trying to come up with anything to do for the closures other than real button holes. I haven't had to use the manual for my machine before and I'm not about to break my streak now.
ReplyDeleteAlso, lovely pictures. Obviously I love the dress. And your sweet color choices for the pictures. You guys are so cool.
I looove the colors, and I looove the dress for Anne... I want it :)
ReplyDeleteYou guys look great! Everytime you post something new I get more and more excited to see you next month!
LOVE the dress. Very impressed. Did you use a pattern or are you just crazy awesome??
ReplyDeleteYou guys are so cute! I love Anne's dress too. Good job! See you next month!!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat pitures and sewing. You have skills Nancy!!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the dress!!!! Anne is a lucky girl to have such a handy crafty mamma!
ReplyDeleteAww, you guys are so nice to me! Thanks for your comments and compliments. I didn't use a pattern, but I did trace the bodice of another of her dresses to get the basic size and then I went from there to make up a pattern.
ReplyDeleteAs far as the snaps go, I just cut off the whole snap area and sewed the onesie fabric to the dress. It's a little junky, but no one will see.
The dress turned out way cute! She totally has to wear it to church so we all can admire it up close.
ReplyDeletehey it was the most pretty pict that I have seen from you guys, love you Yimara
